Discover Ellijay’s First Winery: Cartecay Vineyards
Nestled in the rolling foothills of Ellijay since 2007, Cartecay Vineyards is more than just a winery—it’s a story of passion, craftsmanship, and timeless Southern charm. Once a historic farm dating back to 1890, this scenic spot has become a haven for wine enthusiasts, with over 7 varieties of vines cultivated into handcrafted perfection.
The Tasting Barn
The Tasting Barn, originally built over 100 years ago around 1890, has been thoughtfully restored to preserve its original wood and historic charm. This timeless landmark offers a unique setting for visitors including on-site tastings, special events like Cork & Canvas, private parties, weddings, and live music on weekends.
The Wine That Began It All
Start your sip with their signature Vidal Blanc, the wine that began it all. Crisp and dry, this white wine delivers a silky mouthfeel with bursts of grapefruit and honeysuckle aromas, leaving a subtle minerality on the palate. If white wines aren’t your favorite, Chimney Red is here to impress. This medium-bodied, off-dry red, inspired by their iconic smokestack chimney, is smooth, easy-drinking, and distinctly Cartecay. It’s the kind of wine that makes one glass feel like not quite enough.
But the magic of Cartecay doesn’t end in the glass. Every September, their annual Crush Fest turns the vineyard into a lively celebration, complete with grape stomping, tractor-trailer vineyard tours, and live music. It’s small-town fun at its finest, making every visitor feel like part of the Cartecay family.
No visit is complete without snapping a photo in front of their historic smoke-stack chimney—a symbol of tradition and growth that stands tall against the backdrop of the vineyard.
