Standing Strong with Appalachia

One thing that sets Appalachia apart is our deep sense of connectedness. No matter where you live in these mountains there is an enduring feeling that we are all neighbors, kin even, and what happens to one area of our region breaks the hearts of all Appalachians.

Ellijay’s heart is with all affected across our region. Our community is mobilizing to assist those affected in Tennessee and Western North Carolina along with aid for our fellow Georgians who have experienced devastation in South Georgia. For more information on locally-driven relief efforts, please follow @Gilmer Chamber.

As for our little piece of Appalachia, Ellijay, East Ellijay, and Gilmer County pulled through Helene with minimal damage. As a true agritourism town, Fall is the season our farmers spend all year preparing for. We are still ready to welcome you to our area.

The revenue that Fall travel and apple picking bring to our area sustains many families, helps students pay for their education, and improves the quality of life of almost 1000 Gilmer Countians who are employed in the tourism industry. Extending further, many local artists, makers, and vendors spend all year preparing for the Georgia Apple Festival and Apple Arts on the Square and are still looking forward to a great show on October 12-13 and 19-20. There is still so much beauty and bounty to experience in Ellijay this Fall and we are ready to share it all with you.
